A Wine Club That's Kind of a Cult

When a community starts forming around something, there’s usually a pretty good reason why. Over 20 years ago, we started searching for the very best winemakers – from diehard traditionalists to inventive iconoclasts. All for the sole purpose of bringing the most delicious, palate-pleasing wines to our favorite people. As word got out and corks began to pop, we realized something real was growing—a collective of enthusiasts who wanted nothing more than good glasses, good vibes, and even better friendships. So we called it Postino Wine Cult. And haven’t stopped pouring since.

The Chosen Somm, Brent Karlicek

When a young Brent Karlicek started working summers in California’s wine country, he was a perfectly normal guy from Boston. By the time he left, he had grapes for eyeballs and Cabernet Sauvignon flowing through his veins. It was then that he decided to dedicate his life to a higher standard of winery. Now sitting for his Master Sommelier destination, he works with the top wine producers in the world and samples around 2,500 wines per year – obsessing over custom blends and delivering the most dynamic and supremely delicious wines to all that walk through Postino’s doors.

How it all started

“Wine is food. Wine belongs on the table. It’s an essential part of the experience.” Imagine telling this to your parents after they get back from vacation and find a few empty bottles in the trash. Because that’s what Brent did. He may have earned a month of being grounded. But after years of studying to be a Master Sommelier, curating unbelievably delicious bottle selections, and meticulously planning the perfect pairings, he’s also earned the right to say, “Told ya!”

A delicious doctrine

Finding the perfect wine is Brent’s job. But to him, a job well done entails more than just presenting someone with a divine new expression. It’s about creating the intersection between the exceptional and the accessible. It’s about showcasing place and varietals without an overwhelming bottle list. And, most importantly, it’s about cultivating an environment where a guest can drop their shoulders, enjoy their company, and drink the most delicious wine that’s ever passed their lips.

What do you do if the wine you want doesn’t exist yet? Most people just shrug and pick a different bottle. But Brent taps into his vast network of winemakers in California, Washington, South America, and Europe to make something new. Together, they craft, blend, and create an entirely new brand that is unique and specific for Postino. Brands like the ones you’ll find in Wine Cult.
