2003 Vineyard 29 “Aida” Cabernet Sauvignon

Posted on December 18, 2008 by jheck

Paul and I enjoyed the Aida recently with our better half’s at a new wine establishment in Houston TX called Brix. The owners are very friendly and are not just entrepreneurs, but are passionate and knowledgeable about their wine. Brix offers a warm and cozy ambiance with a very traditional wine cellar feel to it. Enjoy this wine slowly as it will unfold and change as you drink it.

Wine Details:

Producer: Vineyard 29

Vintage: 2003

Vineyard: Aida

Varietal: 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cab Franc

Appellation: St Helena – Napa

Alc: 15.2%

Notes: Aged 18 months in new French Oak from the Taransaud Cooperage. Only 350 Cases produced.

Tasting: Deep dense ruby red/inky color. On the nose blackberry’s, black cherries, star anise, exotic baking spices, pencil lead, and toasty oak. On the palate the wine has a full mouthfeel, with very generous concentrated fruit, focus and velvety texture with great complexity. The wine is elegantly balanced, and is not hot at all even though the label states 15.2% Alc. The finish is very generous and pleasantly long. The Aida is drinking nice now with decanting, but will improve with some age, and will drink well for the next 12-15 years.

If you find it get it… :-)

Rating: 96 JH
