2004 Sea Smoke Southing Pinot Noir
You would think that having more access to the internet than ever before, we would never go a whole week without posting, but it happens… Having been a week or so since our last post, I thought I might put up some of these notes that are stacking up. Jimmy is in LA having all the fun and I am exiled to staying in Houston and drink some of the greatest wines in the world… poor me! NOT! Poor Jimmy…
A few nights ago, we went out to Ibiza and had the 2004 Sea Smoke in a 1.5L and as usual this wine is drinking so nicely. The nose introduces you to some of the most elegant fruit notes I have had this month. Blueberry and dark cherry were the most prominent upon opening, but within thirty minutes, you start getting this great floral component that is very elegant.
The drinking was also very subtle and elegant. The tannins are present, but velvet on the tongue. Silky smoothness is how one of our guests responded after their first taste. The finish is equally impressive as it is long and smooth falling off only slightly on the very end.
All in all, a great wine and a great night. This would probably be a good time to push Ibiza a little bit, you just can’t beat their wine prices and the food is always spot on. More reviews coming tomorrow.
