2004 Miner “The Oracle”
We are all here at Cellar-17 and thought we would use the new iPhone app from Wordpress. Write what we taste, as we taste. So, here it goes.
Wine Details:
Wine Maker: Miner Family Vineyards
Bordeaux Style Blend of 52% Cab, 26% Merlot, 21% Cab Franc, and 1% malbec
4660 Cases made
Jimmy: dark cherry, blackpepper, smells of crayon, strong vanilla, and cassis. I would rate this wine a 92 if it wasn’t so over the top on the oak. Our friends Ernie and Lynn would absolutely love this wine.
Carol: like chewing on a big log
Dianna: love the blueberry, liking it more as it opens up, big oak but very nice… Cherry?
Paul: very nice dark color, beautiful bouquet and lingering finish. Even though Jimmy dislikes it, I think it is very nice.
Two out of three people gave it a 92 and jimmy said 89. Big argument ensues… Jimmy thinks with chocolate the wine is better… We are all over the place with this one… You might like it you might not.
Carol had saved some in a glass, and later the heavy oak wasn’t so strong on the finish. The wine was much easier to drink. After tasting Carol’s glass I would rate the Miner a 90+ JH
We also opened a 2005 Continuum which is a highly regarded wine by the late Robert Mondavi, but it was not stored correctly at some point in it’s life, as the cork showed signs that the wine had overheated. The cork had a solid line of wine all the way up one side, and the cork was wet on the top. We should have sent this wine back, but we didn’t. We will try this wine again and give it a proper rating
